Petrus "Piet" Hubertus van Rijn (78) , passed away on October 03, 2020 in Dallas, TX. Piet was born November 6, 1941 in Woubrugge Netherlands to Johannes and Mien van Rijn. Piet grew up in Roelofarendsveen on his parents farm, with his siblings where he learned the love of farming at a young age. Piet enjoyed speed skating and met Helena "Lenie" Zielmaker in Amsterdam at a ice skating rink, where he often trained for competitions, and they married December 30, 1971. Together they dairy farmed on Piet's family farm and soon Heidi would be the start of a family. Then they moved to Baflo, Netherlands, where Carolien and Ronald added to the family during the 4 years there. Another move was a "hop over the pond" to England for the next 4 years to continue dairy farming in a new country. During this time the twins Mimi and Pater came along to form an international family. Soon, waving good-bye to England they landed in Texas to continue his farming love for the next 38 years. Here, Frank, added a Texan to the family's mix.
Piet enjoyed taking the family canoeing; which turned into a small tradition and something to look forward to each year. He liked spending time with the grandkids and watch them grow and like to help him on the farm.
He also enjoyed the sport of soccer (well, not much ice in Texas) and was able to form a team to play locally. He played along side the teammates (and eventually his sons) as long as he was able. His association with the team built many lasting friendships
Preceeded in death by his parents Johannes and Mien, sister Nell, brothers Sjaak and Huub, and daughter Carolien.
Survived by his wife Lenie, sons Ronald and wife Peggy, Pater and wife Alicia, and Frank, daughters Heidi and husband Willem, and Mimi and Husband Luut, 16 grandchildren, brothers Jan and Jos, and sister Hettie.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 08, 2020 at 1:00PM at Collvins Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Pine Forest Cemetery in Pickton, TX.
